QUOTES QUOTES QUOTES!

We all know that what the characters say and do is very important in every book. Which is where we get inspirational, sad, happy, and motivational quotes from. In my Project Popularity book, from chapter five the most important quote that I read was "' You should be more careful, Jamie.'" my entire body stiffened when I heard Summer's voice from the other end of the locker room." (84%)
I thought this was the most important quote in the chapters I read because it's a use of foreshadowing. Summers tone is a little sarcastic, and in the next paragraph Jamie says that the way she said it made it clear she wasn't talking about her falling. I think Summer was meaning she is on to her for all the sudden changing her look and who she is hanging out with, but with Summer saying that made her know that Luke and Jamie's plan was working.

Project Popularity

I was bored the other day and remembered about this app called Wattpad, it's free and really cool if you get the chance to download it. It is a bunch of books that you can "add" and other people write them and update them by chapters, they are surprisingly good! I was reading this book on there a while ago and came across it again, it's called Project Popularity. It is about this girl who was really geeky and then runs into the most popular guy in the school and his name is Luke. Luke and his ex-girlfriend just broke up and he wants to get her back. The main character Jamie gets a transformation by Luke's sister and so now she is part of the "Popular Crowd" with her now being apart of this crowd I think that this will change her character and her old friends won't like the person she is becoming. But so far the book is super good and will be going back and forth from my books till I finish them!

Trimester One Final Blog Post

Over the course of the trimester my writing/ blogging has improved by my grammatical errors and I reduced the amount of errors I was posting. I also learned to reread my blogs before I posted them because before I would just type up my blog and then post it, not looking over it. Also I learned to shorten my sentences because I used to just drag them on forever and not have an end to it. I learned to know where to put the right punctuation in my quotes also because I would be quoting everything wrong. In the beginning of my blogging I was using the wrong “to” and “there” so I learned to think about how they would fit into my sentences.

One thing I struggled with blogging was how long I had to make my blogs. I felt that I didn’t have anything to talk about and I would run out of ideas to post about and by the end of this trimester my blogs where short. To overcome this I would go to other class makes blogs and read theirs and see what they were blogging about and the topics they would talk about. A strength I had with blogging was I asked a lot of questions trying to get my readers to think about what was going to happen next or what they thought was going to happen next. My reading goal was 10 books; I am not a big reader so I thought it would be hard but not outrageously hard. I only finished 3 books which I could have at least finished 5 but I would pick up a book for a few days and then not like it and return it. The good reads website did help me pick out my books or at least look at a few and see what my friends were reading. I probably should have updated my pages more though. Over the trimester I have definitely improved as a reader because before I would never really want to read in my free time, now when I am bored I will start reading my book. Also I feel I have finished my books faster than I used too.

Matched by Ally Condie

I finally found time to finish The Great Gatsby and now I am starting Matched by Ally Condie. I have not read a single page yet besides the inside front paragraph but I do have some background  information on it from my friends and teachers also. All I know is that it is about this society that decides who you love and what your job is and when you will die. My predictions about this book is that Cassia the main character will go against the society and will do something that thwey do not like. This book looks really good so lets hope I like it and if I do there are two other books I can read continuing this series

The Great Gatsby: Update

This post will be short because I have not really had the time to read and update but to continue on with my last post. I have been reading The Great Gatsby still and it is really good. I have gotten to answer some of my question though. I found out that a girl named Myrtle is Tom's mistress, so he is having an affair. But I also learned that he doesn't seem to care much if people know that he is having an affair because in the book it was telling me that he takes them both out in public.

Romeo and Juliet

To get off the topic about The Great Gatsby, in class we are reading Romeo and Juliet together. A little background information on Romeo and Juliet for those of you who do not know what it is about, it was written in 1595 by William Shakespeare. This play is about how Romeo and Juliet's families hate each other but they love one another and can not be together. With the class we are reading it but also when we finish some scenes in the book we watch parts of the modern movie and the old movie and compare. The last place we left off was when Romeo and Juliet first meet at the mascaraed, we were deciding if it really was love at first sight. In the play it is hard to tell if they love eachother or not but in the movies we can see there actions. Do you think it's really love at first sight?

The Great Gatsby: Predictions and Questions

I started my new book The Great Gatsby, I am only a few chapeters in but I already have so many questions and thoughts of what could happen.
First I want to predict that Tom, Daisey's husband, is having an affair because when they were at dinner someone keep calling asking for Tom. Second, they keep mentioning Gatsby and all they are saying is that he is Nick, the main characters' neighbor, but he obviously must be pretty important if he keeps getting mentioned and his name is part of the title. So who is Gatsby?

Thirten Reasons Why: Book Recommedation

Over the weekend I finished my book Thirteen Reasons Why. This was a great book, I would only give it a 3 out of 5 stars though because it did not keep me very hooked on it, just more of me wanting to finish the book and getting it out of the way to start a new one. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes to read mystery books because it has a very eerie feel to it and it is very suspenseful. What did though kept me wanting to read more was the anticipation and the Cliff hangers at the end of a chapter/ tape. Most all ages from middle school to older would love this book because it wasn't really written to a certain type of people.

The book starts off as Clay getting a package at the door and in it was the tapes. he puts the first one into one of his dads old radio's with a cassette tape holder on it. He presses play and starts listening and then realizes that the voice talking is a girl named Hannah. She committed suicide not to long ago and so at this point Clay is really scared and confused on why he got the tapes. He startes listening again and she goes over some rules. Hannah says that these are the reasons why she killed her self and if you are listening you are one of them, now Clay is freaked out. Then Hannah starts saying that you have to listen to the tapes and if you don't and just throw them away you are going to hell. So Clay feels obligated to listen now. There are thirteen tapes, which one is Clay?

Thirteen Reasons Why Predictions and Connections

Where I left off was Hannah was telling Tyler’s story and how he was a “Peeping Tom”. He would stand outside her window and take pictures of Hannah at night. I didn’t get to finish the chapter or “tape” so I was thinking of what would happen next. I predict that Tyler take the pictures he took and puts them in the year book because he is a part of the year book staff for school. But once all the pictures get out I bet that Hannah will feel really embarrassed about them.
A text to world text connection would be how Hannah committed suicide and how many times it happens a year. “Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it. “ (found on http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/content/bullying-and-suicide.html)

Thirteen Reasons Why: Character vs. Self

Not much has really happened in my book lately. It is a very good book but all it talks about is how Clay feels and tells me what the tapes are saying. So I thought that I would blog about how Clay feels in the book.

Clay is the main character so far and he has been listening to the tapes. He has been having a small Character vs. Self situation in the story, Clay wants to listen to all the tapes and go to all the places but at the same time I feel he is very creeped and weired out by this whole situation. He doesn't know if he should through the tapes away and act like he never got them or respect her wishes and listen to them. In the book it seems he has many Character vs. Self situations, I feel like that because he always seems to question himself about what she say after he listens to the tapes for a little while.

Thirteen Reasons Why: Analysis

I am now on the second tape side A and they have reviled who 3 people are the reasons why she died. One side of the tape really interested me was tape one side A. I couldn't understand why it was one of the reasons because she was talking about how he was her first kiss and all these good things about him and them together.

What I really like about this book is the way it is written. I has Hannah's tapes and in between Clay's thoughts about what Hannah is saying in the tapes.

What has last caught my attention is where i just stopped in the book where Hannah is says "Jessica my dear, I'd really love to know if you dragged yourself to my funeral. And if you did, did you notice your scars left behind?" then a few sentences later Clay says "That wasn't possible." "Because there was no funeral, Hannah." This makes me wonder why they did not have a funeral for her. Was it to hard for her parents that they didn't want to have a funeral for her?

Characters,Thirteen Reasons Why

I started one of my new books for the trimester its called Thirteen Reasons Why. I am not very far into it but it is keeping me hooked. One thing I found interesting is it's about this girl who killed her self and left tapes for the reasons why she did. Clay the main character so far has received the tapes and in the book it tells you what she says in the tapes. Hannah is the girl who has lost her life, I would characterize her as mysterious because she had made these tapes and she tells stories about why she killed her self and if you find your story you pass it on to the next person and then if you are the thirteenth tape "You can take the tapes straight to hell depending on your religion, maybe I'll see you there" (Asher 9). As you just read she sounds like a very dark person.

Even though I am not very far in this book I am making a prediction that Clay is the thirteenth tape. Which is kinda scary, but I am assuming this because in a lot of stories a story wouldn't be good if it didn't have anything to be written about. Following along with the tapes in the box was given a map and you are supposed to go to the places stared on the map. I was curious to find out if there is going to be a clue at each spot they have to go to. But so far I would seriously recommend this book for who ever likes a good mystery and for people of all ages.

Summer Reading Book: Theme

The book I chose to read for my summer reading project was Water For Elephants. My book was about a boy who's parents died in a car crash so he had nothing at home and one night he hoped on a train and it ended up being the circus.along the way he runs into many troubles on the train like falling in love with the main act and trying to learn what is right thing to do and what is wrong. It is told in present time but takes place in the past, 1931 The Great Depression. The theme of the book was love. It appears many times through out the story but there was one time that really stuck out to me. At the end of the book after the animal rade and everything went wrong Rosie the Elephant drives a stake through August's head. This was a loving moment, even though it sounds tragic it was a great moment in the book because August was trying to hurt Marlena and Rosie remembers when August hurt her becuase August would abuse Rosie with the bull hook. This is loving because it shows how close Animals and their trainers can get and shows how protecting animals can be and their instinks.
